Congress Candy

The theaters shown in this painting are two of a cluster of five theaters that were once located on Main Street in downtown Bridgeport, CT. Throughout the middle 1900s, that grand old town proudly boasted 18 movie theaters. Keep in mind that these, unlike today's multi-screen complexes, were independent single-screen theaters. I can only remember 15 of them but I do remember how sweet it was.
